Welcome to Brau Brothers Brewing Co.
We are very excited to introduce Brau Brothers Brewing Company, LLC. We are a locally owned and operated brewery, producing strictly for a local and regional market. We like to stay close to the beer we produce as well as to the people who drink it. Our modest scale allows us to be more flexible, dynamic, and closer to retailers as well as beer drinkers.

Brewer's Log News straight from the brew house.
August 9, 2008
The barley has been harvested! Just a few acres, but enough to make a truly estate beer. If we get enough hops out of the hopyard, I’m thinking about possibly a DIPA made exclusively from our own barley and hops. Put it on oak and release it in December? I don’t know, just thinking out loud. If you’d like to tour the brewery while the hops are still up and coming, let us know. It looks like we’ll begin harvesting in about a week. Some aren’t even close, but some are almost 2 inches long. Looking forward to the Great Taste of the Midwest this weekend, this is our first time attending. I guess the big news is that we are now officially a four-state brewery! South Dakota and Iowa received their first shipments and they are already stocking shelves. Call or email me at the brewery to request Brau Beer at your favorite retailer. Ellwein Brothers in South Dakota and Glazers of Iowa have been terrific in supporting, promoting, and distributing our beers. Having such energetic and motivated partners in distribution truly makes our jobs easier! I will make and post new territory maps in the next week or so which will make it easier to find out where we are and how to find our beers. Time to head to the BrauHaus here in Lucan for a pint!
Take care,
Dustin

We are invading Iowa! Our first shipment of beer is leaving today for Iowa, thanks to our friends at Glazers of Iowa. I will update with the exact markets that are initially covered. I take back everything I’ve ever said about Hawkeye fans. We can’t wait to get down their and share some pints! As we roll out the beers, I will keep you informed. Our tallest hop vine is scaring the top of the trellis, must be 15 feet high! Some are flowering so I am confident that we will get at least some hops this year. Also, the barley is starting to turn so I would anticipate harvesting in the next couple weeks. Megan is going to be in the Detroit Lakes area this weekend so check the events listing on the website and make sure to stop in and say hi! Also, we will tap a cask of ale in Lucan at the BrauHaus if you’re in the area. Maybe Vanilla Bean Cream Stout?
Take care,
Dustin

So far so good in the hopyard and barleypatch. The barley is starting to seed and looks very healthy. We are about to start some test malting to see if we can do some special beers with Brau – grown barley. The hops are about three to five feet tall, depending on variety. We’re getting better at trimming and training them. A big thanks to Jim, Kristie and the crew at the Lodge on Lake Detroit for the incredible hospitality and a very successful beer & food tasting. Also, Rick and Tate Jansen gave us a tour of Zorbas on the Lake. We were blown away with the tap selection and terrific pizza! Frame Straightener is running down and Whirly Bird is doing really well, we’re trying to decide if we should do another SBS before Ring Neck Braun Ale. I’m thinking of doing a beer with only estate grown hops and barley. Maybe a draft-only batch as a IPA or DIPA? Suggestions are welcomed!
Take care,
Dustin

Whirly Bird Oatmeal Stout has been released! We couldn't be happier with this big, complex ale. It's working its way into the market. If you don't see it at your local retailer, ask for it and email me. I will make sure it gets there. As it shows up on tap, I will update. Again, only 1000 cases were produced so it is a very limited release. In other news... The hopyard is taking off! Despite the cold spring, well over half of the rhizomes have broke ground. We will be running the guide wires within the next 2 weeks. It's a relief to see rhizomes of each of the 11 varieties popping up. The barley looks terrific. We will put together some samplings including the Whirly Bird so you can preview it, keep an eye on the events part of the website!
Take care,
Dustin

Hey everyone, it's been a busy couple days. In two days we were able to raise all the trellis posts for the hopyard as well as plant about 90% of our hops. I've included some pics of the pole-raising. Thanks to Nels from Goblirsch Dairy for helping us, he's helped us out with many projects at the brewery. With the 2.5 acres we had leftover, we planted 2 row malting barley. Check out Dave on the brewery's old tractor drilling in the seed. We're looking forward to having hops and barley right outside the brewery door. All this was done right before the rain came; hopefully this rain will give it all a great head start! A couple weeks to Whirly Bird! Been tasting it out of the fermenter and we're very excited with the beer. We're going to be out and about doing some samplings, hope to see you there!
Take care,
Dustin

This Friday we will be tapping the first ever cask-conditioned ale from Brau Bros! Our very own local pub, the BrauHaus will host the event. At about 6:30 pm we will start serving a dry-hopped firkin of Brau Pale Ale – I’ll be pouring the pints. I believe pints are only $2. I know the BrauHaus is looking to make cask beer a regular on “Firkin Fridays”. Beth, thanks for the heads-up on a couple blog entries mentioning Brau Bros, here: and here:.It’s always great to hear from people who pronounce “Lucan” correctly on the first try.
Take Care,
Dustin
